PolyOne Invests In New Engineered Materials Plastics Manufacturing Plant and Lab Facility in Avon Lake, Ohio

CLEVELAND (February 1, 2006) – PolyOne Corporation (NYSE: POL) today announced the addition of a 100,000-square-foot Engineered Materials manufacturing and laboratory facility at the Company's world headquarters in Avon Lake, Ohio. The new plant is projected to begin operations in the second quarter of 2006.
“Our new plant in Avon Lake will add to our capacity and capabilities for producing high-performance engineering thermoplastic compounds,” said Richard J. Burns, vice president and general manager of Engineered Materials for PolyOne. “This new facility demonstrates our commitment to continue to invest in and grow our performance product lines, which help our customers realize the full potential of their products and services.”
With approximately 38 employees, the plant will produce specialty engineering thermoplastic compounds and thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) compounds. These materials utilize a broad range of resins, combined with leading-edge modifier, reinforcement, filler and colorant technologies, to custom formulate high-performance compounds.
Located next to PolyOne's North American Engineered Materials Technology Center, the new facility will initially house six compounding lines with expansion room for an additional six lines. The facility will include advanced laboratory and production equipment, including new twin-screw Coperion ZSK Megacompounders. The plant will also include segregated, dedicated lines for manufacturing FDA-compliant and specialty conductive compounds and will be ISO 9001 certificated.
Including the new facility in Avon Lake and a recently opened plant in southern China, PolyOne has 10 engineered materials manufacturing facilities around the globe.
